WDK Onions, located in the province of Zeeland, Holland, specializes in sorting and packaging onions. Zeeland is the heart of the Dutch onion sector. With a central location between the ports of Vlissingen, Rotterdam and Antwerp, our products can be shipped in a very short time. The onions find their way to many countries in the world via exporters.

Geschiedenis

WDK Onions is already the 3rd generation of the De Koster Family that is active in the onion trade. WDK Onions is a real family business.

In 1933 Willem de Koster started sorting and trading onions. This was mainly done manually.

In 1981 the company was taken over by the sons Rinus, Kees and Piet de Koster. They have expanded the name of the De Koster family into a well-known name in the onion world. It's not about quantity but about quality. This has always been the motto at W de Koster & zonen B.V. They were ahead of their time by investing in a new computer weigher and sorting line upgrades in the 1990s.

In 2009 Mike de Koster took over the family business. The trade name was then changed to WDK Onions. The company has continued in the same tradition, "supplying an above-average quality onion". In this way the De Koster family will be a well-known name in the onion world for a long time to come. The 4th generation is already learning everything about the onion, but they will have to be patient for a while.

In 2020 WDK Onions has developed its own brand. The brand has been given the name "Jolie", named after Mike de Koster's daughter. Jolie means "beautiful" in French. For WDK Onions this also means that we pack beautiful and high-quality onions in these bags.

1 Purchase

Because only the best onions are purchased, WDK Onions can deliver very good quality. After all, the quality of the onions already starts in the field, so we are also very involved in the cultivation at our regular growers.

2 Storage and drying

After harvesting the onions, they are dried in our conditioned storage upon arrival. Thanks to our many years of experience, we know exactly under which conditions the onions must be stored. Due to the large storage capacity, we can always have the best quality available. During the entire process, the onions are subjected to strict controls. This way we know that the customer receives the desired quality.

3 Sorting

As soon as the onions are dried they go over the machine line. The onion is tailed off and cleaned of soil residues, then they go over the sorting line in different sizes, where they are checked by our experienced team.

4 Packing

After they have the desired quality, the onions can be packed. The onions are weighed and packed to the desired weight. At WDK Onions we pack in bags of 9 kg to 25 kg, but also in big bags of 1250 kg or in bulk. They then continue their way to the palletizing machine, which stacks the bags on a pallet and wraps them so that they can be transported stable.

5 Worldwide distribution

6 Jolie

Since 2020, WDK Onions has had its own brand, Jolie. Since the launch of our "Jolie" brand, various customers worldwide have been provided with beautiful and high-quality onions packed in our Jolie bags. Are you looking for onions in a nice packaging? Storage and logistics

WDK Onions has sufficient storage capacity. Onions can be stored separately on slatted floors where we can store the onions under optimal conditions. WDK Onions also has a large conditioned box storage. Onions from different (smaller) batches can be stored here separately.

It is also possible to store pallets with onions under optimal conditions. We also do this for third parties, such as imported onions. If you are looking for space for this, please contact us.
